REMEMBRANCE DAY – 11 NOVEMBER 2020 AT 10:45AM

11 November 2020 - 10 h 45 à 11 h 45

The Permanent Mission of Canada to the UN, CD, WTO, and other IOs in Geneva invites you to join us in a special virtual commemoration of Remembrance day on November 11th, 2020 at 10:45AM. The virtual ceremony will be streaming from our Twitter channels, accessible at https://twitter.com/canadageneva, and https://twitter.com/canadageneve. If you cannot join us live, but would like to view the ceremony, please send us an email and it will be our pleasure to send you a YouTube link to the event on November 11th.

Although a virtual commemoration is new territory for us, an effort has been made to capture many traditional ceremonial elements to mark this annual act of remembrance, one that is deeply significant to so many Canadians. Holding this ceremony and continuing to pass on the traditions of remembrance is one of the important ways in which we can show our appreciation to Canadian Veterans, and their families, for the losses and sacrifices they have endured.

The commemorative program will feature remarks from Ambassador Stephen de Boer, Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization; and Ambassador Leslie E. Norton, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and the Conference on Disarmament. Children of our Canadian diplomatic staff will recite the famous war poem “In Flanders Fields”, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. Two minutes of silence will be observed, and we hope that you will stand for the playing of our national anthem – O Canada, knowing that, although not in person, all of us will be standing with you.

These are extraordinary and difficult times. We wish for your safety and well-being, and we look forward to your participation as a witness to this important commemoration.

THE SWISS-CANADIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
