What motivated you to put your candidature forward for the position of President?

A desire to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the Chamber, to foster strong relationships within the business community, to bring innovative ideas and leadership to address the challenges and opportunities facing Swiss and Canadian businesses.

What is your vision for the Chamber?

To strengthen the Swiss and Canadian economy and create opportunities for businesses of all sizes and sectors. This includes the promotion of the interests of Canadian businesses and economic growth, advocating for actions that support a thriving business environment, facilitating trade and investment, and promoting diversity.

What can we expect over the next few years?

Clear and frequent communication, and continued support in fostering strong business ties between Canada and Switzerland. This will certainly include more opportunities for networking, trade missions, educational events, and advocacy efforts to promote bilateral trade and investment.

What challenges and opportunities do you see for Swiss Canadian business?

I perceive a range of challenges and opportunities for businesses operating between Switzerland and Canada.

Some challenges might be for example:

Regulatory hurdles: Navigating differing regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in both countries can pose challenges for businesses.

Economic uncertainty: Economic fluctuations, geopolitical tensions, and global events can impact business confidence and investment decisions.

Technological disruptions: Rapid technological advancements require businesses to adapt and innovate to remain competitive.

Some opportunities we can harness:

Trade expansion: Strengthening bilateral trade relations and exploring new markets can create opportunities for growth and diversification.

International innovation: Leveraging Switzerland’s expertise in innovation and Canada’s research and development capabilities can lead to mutually beneficial partnerships and breakthroughs.

How long have you been based in Switzerland? Did Canada used to be your home?

I am Moroccan and Swiss, and I travel regularly to Canada. I’ve been working for Air Canada for about fifteen years, and I represent the company as Regional Manager Sales Switzerland and North Africa.

Which other locations and cultures make up who you are?

My Moroccan origins give me a rich cultural heritage, and instill in me a sense of warmth, generosity and interconnectedness with others. My Swiss heritage brings stability, neutrality, and a strong national identity, fostering a sense of pride and belonging.

What qualities do you think are essential for conducting international business successfully?

A combination of cultural awareness, adaptability, strategic thinking, effective communication, and ethical conduct to navigate the complexities of the global marketplace.

Which activities do you enjoy when you are not working at Air Canada or leading the CSCC?

I enjoy a range of leisure activities outside my professional life such as spending time with family and friends at gatherings, exploring new destinations whether locally or internationally, gardening, cooking, long walks, hiking, and reading.
